So as far as restorative dentistry, there's a big spectrum of what we can do, from the simplest filling to, I guess, more complexed cases. Sometimes we'll have two or three-year-olds with 20 cavities on 20 teeth. In that situation, we have the option of putting them to sleep to get that done. The treatment would range anywhere from just white fillings, to crowns, and to restore that smile for them. Other options, restorative wise, sometimes you'll have a kid that has some kind of dental trauma or had to have a tooth pulled out early because of infection. We have cosmetic things we can do. Sometimes we'll put a—if they're missing a front tooth, we can put in a pedo partial. It's a little partial that's glued in there, it has a little fake tooth on there. That way, they don't have to go to school with missing a tooth and feel out of place with their classmates. For older kids that are missing teeth and stuff like that, we can address that with kind of a similar type thing until they're old enough for an implant.
To ensure your kid’s comfort, we use anesthetic and dental sedation.
If your child has a cavity, we will use our state-of-the-art Solea CO2 dental laser to both numb your kid’s tooth and remove tooth decay. Then, we will restore the tooth with a tooth-colored filling.
Root Canals And Pulpotomy
If tooth decay has infected soft tissue inside your child’s tooth, we can perform a root canal to gently remove the infection and save your child’s tooth.
We may also be able to remove infected pulp from your child’s baby teeth with a pulpotomy, which is typically a less expensive and faster alternative. We’ll help you decide which option is best for your child’s smile.
We may also cap the tooth with a metal-free dental crown for protection.
Dental Crowns And Dental Bridges
If your child has one or multiple adjacent missing teeth, we can fill the gaps in their smile with a dental bridge. We can also use a same-day dental crown to cover up and repair teeth that are:
- Worn down
At Dentistry for Children, our Sandy, UT dentists including Dr. Rooklidge can place strong dental implants and restore them with dental crowns or dental bridges. We can even implant them immediately following an extraction!
Because dental implants literally fuse with the jawbone, they provide just about the same level of chewing power as natural teeth! Your child will also be able to brush, floss, chew, and speak normally. No one will know they’ve had dental work done!
