Children should usually come to see us, usually about age one. The Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and The Academy of Pediatric Medicine, or your pediatrician’s governing body, they both recommend six months after your first tooth comes in, which is usually around age one. At that point, they're small and they're very nervous to come in, usually. So usually, what we will do is we will have the parent come back, we’ll talk about what they are doing at that point with their kid, you know, “Are you brushing their teeth? What are they eating and drinking?” Talk about their health, is there any health issues we need to be worried about? Then, if they'll sit in the chair, we'll try to do an exam and cleaning, if they'll let us. Some kids are too nervous where they won't even sit in the chair. At that point, we'll have them sit on mom’s lap and I'll just—we’ll just kind of lean them back onto my knees and I'll take a quick look, make sure everything looks good. If we did find something, some cavities or something at that age, then we'll find a way to make it easier to accomplish fixing those problems.
