Teeth are strong, but they’re not indestructible. That’s especially true when you’re talking about little teeth and active kids. If your child has a broken tooth, consider a same-day dental crown from Dentistry for Children.
At other offices, restoring the health and appearance of a tooth with a dental crown can take weeks. That’s because most offices create a blueprint for the custom restoration on-site and then send those specifications to an off-site lab for fabrication. But that’s not the case at Dentistry for Children!
Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, we’re able to create a custom dental crown in a matter of minutes! We know that it can be difficult for busy parents to coordinate appointments, and no kid wants to spend more time in the dentist’s chair than they need to.
The highly skilled team at Dentistry for Children can prepare the tooth, plan the restoration, and place the dental crown in just one visit. It repairs the damage quickly so you and your family no longer have to worry about it.

What Is A Dental Crown?
You may have heard a dental crown referred to as a “cap.” That’s because a dental crown is a single-tooth prosthetic that completely “caps” or covers the visible part of a tooth to restore its health and appearance.
Dental crowns have a number of uses, including:
- Repairing chipped, cracked, or broken teeth.
- Covering discolored teeth.
- Building up worn down teeth.
- Supporting a tooth with a large filling.
- Anchoring a dental bridge.
- Restoring a dental implant.
The Advantages Of A Same-Day Dental Crown
You can’t deny the convenience of a same-day dental crown, particularly when the patient is a child. Same-day crowns eliminate the need for a finicky temporary crown and a follow-up appointment (when the restoration is typically placed). So, same-day crowns are certainly better for busy families.
You might think that crowns created chair-side using special software and machines might be inferior in quality compared to those created in an off-site lab. But a recent literature review found that when performed by a skilled dentist, producing and placing restorations using chair-side computer-aided design and manufacturing devices is “better than restorations made by conventional laboratory procedures.”
When you think about it, this makes sense. Computers have made it possible for dentists to be more precise, consistent, and detailed than ever before!
The Process Of Getting A Same-Day Dental Crown
Creating a dental crown in a matter of minutes might seem like magic. But the process is actually pretty straightforward!
When you and your child come to Dentistry for Children for a same-day dental crown, we’ll first assess the health of the tooth and if everything looks good, we’ll prepare the tooth. We’ll numb your child’s tooth and surrounding gum tissue before any work begins to keep them comfortable. Then, we’ll gently remove a small portion of the tooth — just enough to make room for the restoration.
Then, we’ll take a series of digital images of the prepared tooth. These images will serve as the blueprint for your child’s custom dental crown. The goal is to create a restoration that’s durable, fits great, and blends in seamlessly with the rest of your child’s smile.
We’ll send the blueprint to our special machine, which will create the custom restoration. Once it’s ready, we’ll make sure that the crown fits well and looks perfect, and we’ll bond the restoration to the prepared tooth. It’s easy, and your child will be able to leave the office with a beautifully restored smile!
A Comfortable Procedure For Your Child
Generally speaking, the local anesthetic that we use to numb your child’s tooth should allow your child to experience no pain while we prepare the tooth. But for kids who are nervous, have trouble sitting still for extended periods of time, or simply want the most comfortable treatment possible, we offer dental sedation options.
- Nitrous oxide. This is a mild sedative often referred to as “laughing gas.” There are no needles or pills involved! We’ll simply place a small mask over your child’s nose and have them take a few deep breaths. After that, they’ll begin to feel a sense of calm.
- Oral conscious sedation. For adults, this is usually administered as a pill. But we offer a more kid-friendly version, where the medication is given in the form of a beverage your child will drink before the procedure. This may make your child a bit sleepy but ultimately relaxed and ready for the dental work.
- IV sedation. This is the deepest form of sedation that we offer. It’s administered directly into the bloodstream and will allow your child to experience the procedure in a dream-like state.
